Job Description

 DATA ANALYST

OBJECTIVE: Virtual Pediatric Systems, LLC (“VPS”), a leading healthcare technology firm based in
Los Angeles, is seeking a full time Data Analyst. Since formally launching in 2002, VPS is continuously adding features to meet the needs of an extensive customer base that is directly involved in saving lives on a daily basis. This individual will provide expertise to acquire, manage, manipulate and analyze data and report such results. Technical expertise used to create and maintain the information and information systems necessary for projects and department functions, including programming and data system development. Quality control processes used to ensure the accuracy, integrity and quality of data.
COMPANY INFORMATION: VPS is a web-based pediatric critical care network that develops, validates, and reports on quality metrics for more than 135 pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) across North America. The database uses standardized clinical data definitions, data quality control and data analysis. VPS is the largest international data warehouse for critically ill children (over 1 million pediatric ICU patients). The database has published well over 150 scientific papers in high-impact peer reviewed journals. The database is endorsed by US News and World Report, American Academy of Pediatrics, Society of Critical Care Medicine and the State of California as a quality improvement tool. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 Performs analyses on data using tools such as R and SQL. This includes data abstraction, querying, and analysis of VPS’s data sources.
 Working with customers and researchers to generate, provide, and explain datasets based on requested filters. Reports directly to the Director of Analytics in generating VPS’s client quality reports.
 Collaborates with VPS engineering team to implement tools for analysis, and to help with automation of VPS’s quality reports.
 Collaborates with VPS clinical team, and the analytics director, to gather requirements to complement and enhance the current quality reports.
 Provide data driven recommendation for business decision best practices.
 Learns and utilizes appropriate software to effectively manage and use VPS’s data.
 Keep abreast of new tools and techniques in data analysis.

OVERALL FUNCTIONS:
 Maintains awareness of changing technologies and proactively pursues the education necessary to keep current with these changing technologies.
 Works with technical and clinical experts within VPS to ensure the capabilities of the various systems that support quality control for the VPS database, meet customer expectations and adhere to national quality control standards.
 Participates in production meetings to ensure that the capabilities of VPS to respond to program growth support the automation processes and networking of systems.
 Continually seeks ways to improve individual and department performance; communicates these innovations to department leadership and works collaboratively with colleagues to implement effective performance improvement processes.
 Maintains strict adherence to all rules and regulations, including HIPAA, regarding the confidentiality and security of all patient information.
 Will actively participate in research related activities geared towards generating IP and eminence for VPS.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
 Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, information science, engineering or equivalent field. A minimum two years of experience in any of these fields is required.
 An MS in mathematics, statistics, information science, engineering, or equivalent in lieu of 2-year experience.
 Knowledge of healthcare is highly preferred.
 Demonstrated proficiency in the R statistical language and SQL.
 Excellent proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.
 Previous experience in SAS and/or SPSS is a plus.
 Professional oral and written communication in English and ability to develop reports and presentations.
 Previous experience working in industry, and in research, highly desired.
