FreelancePart-time R Instructor for Data Science Retreat
NOTE: This job listing has expired and may no longer be relevant!
Do you know R well? Have you done serious analyses on large, messy datasets? Do you like teaching?
There’s a large demand for data scientists, and most university programs don’t cover the topics companies need well.
Data Science Retreat (DSR) helps coders or people with significant quantitative training (e.g. science, engineering, or math graduates) ramp-up rapidly for a data science career – arguably the fastest-growing, highest-demand profession. DSR is a 3-month, in-person, rigorous, and full-time/intensive course in the startup-capital of Europe: Berlin. Participants learn software engineering, data science, business analysis and communication faster and more deeply with mentors doing code reviews and pair-programming – all on real-world data and problems. Participants will develop a portfolio project, demonstrating they can own a business problem, solve it, and communicate why their results are definitive.
Towards the end DSR provides a networking event with top-tier technology companies, where participants will show off their new skills and portfolio project, likely leaving with a career-changing job.
We have different part-time positions open.
– Teaching assistant. You will support participants work through our existing materials. They vary in complexity, from simple exercises to kaggle competitions to full-blown projects where they have to define the problem themselves.
– Lecturer. You will develop your own teaching materials and have a say on the curriculum. You can provide strategic advice on which problems to tackle next to make sure participants’ learning is as efficient as possible. You can take ownership on large, complex topics such as Rcpp, caret, etc. Ideally, you have some experience with Hadoop (no need to teach it, though).
We have offices in the center of Berlin, and are well connected to both the startups and VCs communities. Often we run our batches in parallel with Hacker Retreat, which means you will be surrounded by pretty advanced programmers. We are also building a network of companies looking for data scientists, so you will benefits from those contacts. We have big-name data scientists come visit and often teach/supervise participants.
This is a freelancer project, where you get paid for the hours you put in. Salary is competitive (consider that Berlin is one of the cheapest big cities in EU). You can attend any classes you don’t teach, so your own data science skillset will improve. Not to mention that teaching helps you understand the topics you know even better.
If after a batch as a freelancer you love the challenges and want to stay longer, a permanent contract is possible.
How to ApplyPress the 'apply' button. This will let you send an email to us. Tell us why you are a good match, and we will schedule an interview. Best if you have links to code samples or teaching materials you have prepared.
