Full-Time Data Analytics Associate
Income Discovery is a highly successful fintech startup that is rapidly growing towards building a multi-billion dollar valuation business. The company currently offers a B2B software-as-a-service to help financial advisors at broker-dealers and insurance firms build optimized strategies for their clients’ retirement distribution phase – an optimal way of structuring retirement income from Social Security, investments and annuities while minimizing taxes. Three financial advisor facing tools exist today: a standalone Social Security illustrator, a basic mode retirement income optimization tool that works on simple tax assumptions and an advanced mode optimization tool that delves into tax details to build tax optimized retirement income strategies. The company is expanding its offering by building simpler interfaces for use by individual investors and by retirement plan consultants.
The Data Analytics Associate will report to the Head of Analytics. The primary responsibility of the role at Income Discovery will be to build models for regression testing and validation of software products in the retirement income space and support new research of retirement income products and strategies. The candidate should be prepared to analyze and understand the retirement income market and model the behavior of retirement products in R.
Since a new software product is being developed from scratch, there may not be explicit business requirements from institutional customers as typically happens in custom software development. Through conversations with institutional clients and Income Discovery’s leaders, the Data Analytics Associate will collaborate with Business Analysts to synthesize the business requirements, generate high level user stories and then translate those requirements and stories into functional development specifications for the application development team. The Data Analytics Associate will then model the functional requirements in R and perform statistical analysis to validate the work of the application development team.
The Data Analytics Associate may also be contribute to sales and marketing initiatives. This includes working with our Business Analysts on the curation of sales presentation decks and marketing materials. The candidate may be expected to travel and participate in sales pitches and conference exhibitions.
Key Skills & Experience
- BS Degree in Quantitative Analysis (Economics, Finance, Statistics, etc.) or Computer Science
- Experience with R is required
- Advanced experience with Excel and statistical analysis
- 3 – 5 years analysis experience with focus on modeling financial instruments
- Strong analytical and technical skills, including understanding functional requirements to develop models
- Knowledge of retirement planning products and wealth management industry is preferable
This position is located in Hoboken, NJ. The candidate will be expected to work in the Hoboken office at least 3 days/week. The rest can be done remotely. The candidate is also expected to travel for sales pitches and conference exhibitions 2-3 times per month during the Spring and the Fall.
