Full-Time Principal Data Engineer @ London

Summary of Role:

We are looking for a talented senior Engineer to take technical ownership of a wide range of data platforms, including Amazon RedShift, Google BigQuery, MySQL, Birst and bespoke in-house analytical / reporting solutions.

This key role will design, build and support scalable, high performance data applications that will provide key insights into how ZPG can better inform our property portal customers and delight our members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transforming complex business structures, processes and activities into technical solutions
  • Design, build and support scalable, high performance data applications, repositories and data governance related applications
  • Define data architecture standards and establish best practices for data management (including the handling of Personally Identifiable Information – PII)
  • Mentor the Development and Data & Analytics teams on data application design and data modelling
  • Provide vision and direction for the integration of various platforms
  • Design and implement logical and physical data models across platforms
  • Manage equivalent, separate data sets across different development and staging environments as part of our release process
  • Seek out opportunities to propose new concepts and ideas in ‘Big Data’ and expand existing platforms or leverage new technologies to meet more complex business needs

Skills required:


  • Previously designed and built a large ”Big Data platform”, enabling non-technical users to gain insight into key business metrics
  • Hands on experience with modern "Big Data" systems (e.g. Amazon RedShift or Hadoop)
  • Familiarity with a traditional BI SaaS or applications such as SAP HANA, Birst or Tableau
  • Strong SQL and data profiling skills
  • Excellent advanced Excel experience, such as pivot tables
  • Hands-on ETL experience
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing principles, concepts and best practices (e.g. ODS, Data Mart)
  • Strong problem solving and analytic skills


  • Master Data Management and Data Governance experience
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communications skills
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, and direct data related projects
  • Proven ability to evaluate business specifications, design in detail all data solutions necessary and provide technical guidance to other members of a project team
  • Experience of working effectively with both business and technical stakeholders
