NIMBLE project at UC Berkeley – Posted by pdevalpine Berkeley, California, United States

Job Description

NIMBLE is a new language for computational statistics algorithms embedded within R.  It includes:

  • A new implementation of the BUGS language that has been popularized by previous Markov chain Monte Carlo packages.  In NIMBLE, BUGS code is used to create programmable model objects.
  • A system for writing functions that use BUGS model objects for general algorithms such as MCMC, particle filtering, and more.
  • A compiler that generates C++ for models and algorithms, compiles the C++, and provides the R user with seamless interfaces to use the resulting compiled objects.
  • An algorithm library.

NIMBLE provides a new platform for implementing and sharing a wide range of computational statistics methods from R.  Development of NIMBLE is supported by the National Science Foundation.

The NIMBLE team is hiring an R and C++ programmer to extend NIMBLE’s capabilities.  For more information on the position, see r-nimble.org.
