Senior Research Analyst

Excelsior College, a regionally accredited, private, nonprofit institution of higher learning, seeks applicants for the position of Senior Research Analyst to work within the Strategy and Institutional Effectiveness unit.

Summary

The Senior Research Analyst works in a collaborative manner with all members of the Institutional Research team to produce quality research and statistics that support faculty, staff, and administrators in making data driven decisions. The Senior Research Analyst assists the Executive Director of Institutional Research in designing and conducting a regular program of research to support the strategic goals of the College, and fulfills information requests from external agencies as well as those from within the College.

Responsibilities

Extract data from Excelsior’s custom Student Information System and other College data systems.
Respond to internal and external requests for information and analyses.
Apply appropriate statistical techniques to answer a variety of research questions.
Conduct research projects that contribute to the understanding of student success.
Prepare, analyze, interpret, and present data to various audiences using tables, charts, and narrative reports.
Participate in the design of new surveys and research projects.
Administer surveys; analyze, and report results.
Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in social science, psychology, or other research-based, quantitative discipline.
Doctoral level education in quantitative analysis is preferred.
Skills in the use of descriptive and inferential statistics.
Knowledge of survey methodology.
Expertise with Microsoft® Office and statistical analysis software (such as SPSS®, SAS®, or R); must be willing to learn R if not already proficient.
Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
Experience with SQL and relational databases is desirable.
Experience in higher education, particularly in distance education and/or adult learners, is also desirable.
