Summary

My career objective is to succeed in the exciting industry of data science and big data, and to learn from and contribute to an organization through data-driven solutions to business problems. I thrive in a fast-paced environment, and always deliver high-quality outputs with minimal supervision. I’m great at adapting and learning new things fast, and can fix anything that’s thrown at me. A testament to this is the breadth and depth of my experience一working excellently at a government agency, a university, and a data science startup, with an applied mathematical finance and philosophy double major.

DATA SCIENCE & STRATEGY PROJECTS

Served as project manager, data scientist, and/or data strategist for data science and data strategy projects with corporations, government agencies, and international NGOs for varying fields ranging from transport to finance.

Finance: Fraud Detection and Improving Revenue

  • Power Fraud Detection. Led a data science team to catch electricity thieves for the Philippines’ largest power distribution company. We used Random Forest, SVMs, Logistic Regression tied together by a Voting Classifier for the fraud model using Python (sklearn, pandas, numpy, matplotlib, bokeh, seaborn) and plot.ly. Our ensemble classifier obtained 90% recall score and outperformed our client’s best previous human and rule-based models based on inspection.
  • Insurance Claims Fraud Detection. Used supervised ML models and anomaly detection to catch fraudulent claims for the country’s national health insurance program via Microsoft AzureML and SQL.
  • Improving Utilities Payment Timeliness. Managed and served as data scientist for a project to improve daily sales outstanding of a major utilities company through A/B testing of bill advertisements. We used behavioral clustering (HDBSCAN, k-means) and factor analysis (Mutual Information, RandomForest regressor) to identify customer clusters and top factors for late payments using Python (sklearn, pandas, numpy, matplotlib, seaborn, folium) and AWS.

Transport: Big Data Pipeline and Traffic Congestion Analysis

Social Media: Identifying public influence spheres and effect

  • Network and Time Series analysis for Social Media. Conducted time series and exploratory data analysis on social media data to identify possible troll-like behavior connected to public influencers using Python (pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, networkX, nltk) and SQL.

Public Governance: Data Strategy and Quality Audits for e-Government

  • Data Strategy for e-Government. Provided technical support for the Philippine e-Government Digital Strategy through a 3-month diagnostic assessment of the National Government Portal in collaboration with the World Bank and the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
