Full-Time Data Scientist – Fundamental And Economic Analytics @ North Carolina, United States

Job Description

Our client is a leading financial institution that is focused on acquiring, analyzing, and understanding the ever-growing data universe.  Given the vast amount of data being produced, they are rapidly implementing new research methodologies, machine learning, natural language processing, scientific data visualization, and distributed computing to identify significant trends.  The data science group will play a critical role in processing a diverse set of data and manipulating it into the formats necessary to conduct alpha research and capture fundamental insights. 

Key job responsibilities include: 

  • Work with Coverage Analysts, Economic Analysts and Investment Teams on new data requests 
  • Design applications and schemas to mine and warehouse large unstructured data sets 
  • Apply statistical and predictive modelling techniques to analyze large data sets 
  • Analyze new data sets and determine statistical relevance to financial metrics 
  • Determine inflection points in large data sets and apply to quantitative investment strategies 
  • Prepare and distribute resultant data/analysis to Coverage Analysts, Economic Analysts, and Investment Teams 

Desired skills / experience: 

  • 3-5 years of financial industry experience with exposure to equity markets 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research utilizing large data sets 
  • Programming experience in any of the following: C++, Java, C#, MATLAB, R, Python, Perl 
  • Understanding of financial markets and big data

  • Willingness to travel 

Education: 

  • Graduate or Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics
