Full-Time Research Software Engineer on the Epiverse project

London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine – Posted by sbfnk London, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

The purpose of this job is to join a new team that will develop free, open-source R software tools for outbreak analytics, to support global preparedness and response. The role will be part of the major new ‘Epiverse’ initiative at LSHTM, a joint collaboration between researchers in London and The Gambia supported by data.org, which builds on previous policy-relevant analysis for outbreaks such as COVID-19 and Ebola within our Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases (CMMID), and analytics development programmes such as the R Epidemics Consortium and EpiForecasts.

Beyond contributions to code, documentation, testing, code reviews, and training, the post holder will ensure that tools are fully integrated in the current software ecosystem and build, when possible, on existing code bases. The post holder will be responsible for implementing the general software engineering vision and strategies outlined by the project’s leadership, and for releasing and maintaining software packages.

The post holders will have a MSc degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (computer science, engineering, data science, statistics, a natural science, etc) and experience in using and developing research software to produce research outputs. Further particulars are included in the job description.

The posts are full-time, fixed term until 31/08/2024 and available immediately.

The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale Grade 6 in the range £40,611-£44,094 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
