Full-Time Two positions: Researcher/PostDoc in human pregnancy genomics and Researcher/DataTechnician in bead-chip genotyping

Job Description

Our research group is located at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (Oslo) and University of Gothenburg in Sweden. We investigate genetic and environmental factors affecting human gestational age at birth. We work with unique genomic data containing more than 11 thousand family trios from Norway, coupled with a rich collection of pregnancy-related medical variables and an extensive set of validated environmental exposures, and a large medical birth register with more than 4 million pregnancies from Sweden.

The project is led by Professor Bo Jacobsson. Collaborators of this project are Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati (USA) and Institute of Computational Biology, Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (USA). The project is financially supported by grants from Norwegian Research Council.

Job Assignments

Postdoctoral Fellow (16137 HD):

  • Analyses of large genomic datasets and pregnancy-related phenotypes (please check the examples: https://goo.gl/ABtx1Q)
  • Authoring and co-authoring scientific publications; submitting them to research journals
  • Contribution to grant proposal writing and REK/IRB application writing
  • Regular stays at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden for work with the Swedish branch of the research group

Data Technician (16136 HD):

  • Genotype calling (microarray bead-chips, only dry-lab tasks)
  • Quality control of genotyping data
  • Phasing and imputation of genotype data using reference haplotype panels
  • Managing storage, encryption and transfer of sensitive medical data
  • Regular stays at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden for work with the Swedish branch of the research group

Qualifications

Postdoctoral Fellow:
PhD in mathematical, computer or biomedical sciences
Work experience in GWAS
Excellent R coding skills and fluency in Unix environment (please include at least one sample of your R code within the application)

Excellent written and spoken English language skills

Advantages: experience in survival analysis, gradient boosting, neural networks, Git/GitHub, LaTeX

Data Technician:
Master’s degree
in mathematical, computer or biomedical sciences
Work experience with bead-chip microarray genotyping datasets
Readiness to execute job assignments (1-3) without supervision
Excellent R coding skills and fluency in Unix environment (please include at least one sample of your R code within the application)

Excellent written and spoken English language skills

Advantages: experience in SQL, task parallelisation, Git/GitHub, LaTeX

Work in group environment but at the same time be work independently
