The Millburn Corporation is a firm that provides administrative, trading and research services to an asset management firm in the alternative investment business with more than 40 years’ experience. The firm executes trades for the asset management firm primarily in financial and commodity futures and currency forwards using systematic trading methodologies, across a diversified portfolio of global markets.
The Millburn Corporation is seeking a Quantitative Research Associate to work in its New York office. The Research team is responsible for the research and development of Millburn’s quantitative strategies and portfolio management across major asset classes. Millburn’s strategies trade both long and short, seeking superior risk-adjusted returns with minimal correlation to traditional long-only indices. Members of the research team come from diverse quantitative backgrounds.
The Research team favors an open, academic environment as opposed to a silo approach, encouraging idea generation and collaboration, while benefiting from close peer review and constructive criticism. The team is focused on a constant, iterative process of improving portfolio construction and risk- adjusted returns for each investment we trade.
The Quantitative Research Associate is a motivated individual who will research futures and FX markets to develop quantitative trading strategies to improve our ensemble of strategies. This is a unique opportunity to join one of the longest-running quantitative investment firms that is still actively pushing the envelope.
Nature and Scope of Responsibilities:
• Conduct primary research in predictive modeling to develop improvements in our trading framework in areas such as return forecasting, risk management, transaction costs, and execution algorithms.
• Propose and manage an allocation of risk capital to trading strategies in futures and FX markets.
• Attend weekly research meetings to update on the progress of current projects and provide feedback and suggestions to other team projects.
Qualifications / Requirements:
• Must have an advanced degree from a top-tier institution in a quantitative discipline
• Must have superior research capabilities, demonstrated in prior academic or industrial research projects
• One to three years’ experience developing and trading quantitative investment strategies preferred
• Expertise with a variety of statistical learning techniques, demonstrated by a solid theoretical understanding as well as experience with practical implementations and applications (neural nets, decision trees, boosting, stacking, etc.)
• Experience with mathematical optimization techniques (LP, QP, SOCP)
• Programming proficiency in at least one of R, Python, MATLAB, C++, or Java
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
