Research Associate (Bioinformatician)

Full Time:

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £33,686 to £40,716 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for a bright and highly motivated Research Associate Bioinformatician to join the Bioinformatics Image Core Facility (BIONIC) at the MRC LMCB/University College London led by Dr Janos Kriston-Vizi. BIONIC works closely with the Translational Research Resource Centre (TRRC) led by Dr Robin Ketteler that facilitates large-scale cell-based screening using functional genomics technologies and high-content imaging. The successful candidate will be analyzing microscopic image data from High-Throughput Screening and High-Content imaging experiments and develop software tools for data handling and data mining of experimental data. The successful applicant will interact closely with biologists and other researchers in the department and across other faculties at UCL.

This post is funded until 30th June 2017 in the first instance with a strong possibility of extension, and is available immediately.

Applicants should have experience in the bioimage informatics field of bioinformatics, quantitative fluorescence microscopic image analysis that should ideally include navigating within molecular databases and analysis of imaging data. Applicants must be able to demonstrate scientific/technical versatility, as evidenced by hands-on experience in the previous role. Research experience in functional genomics, drug discovery and/or high-throughput screening programs would be an advantage. Basic knowledge in molecular biology and cell biology are desirable.

Applicants should be willing to work independently and as a team so that they can take an active role in ensuring the well-being and success of the research group as a whole. This will include training pre- and post-doctoral scientists and active participation in collaborative research projects. Applicants should hold a PhD in bioinformatics or a related subject area.
