The Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ invites applications for a position on

Statistical Consulting, Teaching and Coordination

to commence as soon as possible, working time: 100% (39 hours per week), initially limited to 2 years (extension to permanent employment possible)

Your duties:

  • Development and coordination of a statistical curriculum, including teaching introductory and advanced courses on environmental statistics for PhDs and Postdocs
  • Managing the UFZ community of scientists with statistical needs or know-how, organization of user group meetings and knowledge brokerage
  • Establishing a system of statistical consultation for PhDs and Postdocs at all UFZ locations
  • Horizon scanning for new statistical methods and communication and transfer of those into the UFZ

Your profile:

We seek a highly motivated, team-oriented scientist with expertise in statistical teaching and consultation as well as knowledge of a wide range of advanced statistical methods, including applications and experience in environmental problems.

  • A PhD in a relevant field of natural or social sciences
  • Proficient skills in one or more of the major statistical environments such as R or MatLab
  • Experience in a wide range of advanced statistical methods, preferably both in a frequentist and Bayesian framework, such as multivariate and spatial statistics as well as mixed effect models, hierarchical modelling and handling of large or complexly structured datasets
  • Expertise in teaching statistics classes and workshops
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills
  • Experience in the conception and coordination of training programmes is beneficial
  • An open-minded, organized team player with excellent communication skills
