Job Description

Position Summary: New York University’s (NYU) Data Services, a joint IT and Libraries facility, is seeking a full-time Data Services Quantitative Specialist (Academic Technology Specialist) to provide quantitative/statistical research computing and data support to faculty, students, and staff at NYU, especially in the statistical packages R, Stata, and SAS. The incumbent will be working in a vibrant and collaborative environment on a team that supports all phases of the data lifecycle in research, teaching and learning including collections, analysis, and preservation.

Qualifications/Required Education: Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Education: Master’s degree or higher, preferably in Sociology, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Political Science, Psychology, Urban Planning, or related field

Required Experience: 3 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination. Must include experience supporting information technology, training, programming and client service.1-3 years conducting quantitative academic research with at least two of the following statistical software packages: R, Stata, and SAS.

Preferred Experience: Experience in an academic environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, analytical, problem solving, and communication skills. Ability to train and provide technical advice to a non-technical audience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Experience teaching quantitative/statistical software packages and/or research methods. Familiarity with a variety of statistical methods, such as: factor analysis, time series analysis, panel data analysis, multi-level modeling, structural equation modeling, and classification methods. Knowledge of computer science concepts including data structures and algorithms; experience programming with a high-level language like Python, Julia, or C++. Basic understanding of geographic information systems (GIS), qualitative data analysis, and survey research methods. Experience submitting batch jobs on high performance computing systems a plus.
